Greg Evans, President & Chief Executive OfficerGreg Evans

President & Chief Executive Officer
Greg is a Winona native and graduate of Winona Senior High School and Valparaiso (Ind.) University. He joined Merchants in 1989 as the first Marketing Department was being created and served as Director of Marketing until 2007, when he became Regional President for the Cannon Falls, Red Wing and Hampton markets. Greg returned to Winona in 2014 as Chief Banking Officer. He became President and CEO of MFGI in February 2017. Greg is currently serving as a member of the American Bankers Association Government Relations Council and Minnesota Bankers Association Government Relations Council.

Rick’s extensive experience in the equipment finance industry spans more than 20 years with companies including TCF Equipment Finance, GE Capital Fleet Services and U.S. Bank. He joined Merchants in 2016 and oversees our leasing division, Merchants Bank Equipment Finance, which serves business customers with leasing needs nation-wide.

Beth has more than 25 years of experience in professional training and Human Resource (HR) management. She was most recently the Human Resources Services Advisor at WA Group (formerly Winona Agency) and has held several senior HR positions. Her background also includes HR consulting, compensation and benefits administration, change management, strategic planning, talent development and recruitment. She joined Merchants in 2019.

Andrew brings more than 15 years of sales and sales management experience from US Foods. He joined the banking industry in 2006, most recently as a Community President for NXT Bank. In 2017, he joined Merchants Bank. As Regional President, Andrew has direct responsibility for Winona and Goodview and also works with local market Presidents in our Caledonia, Eau Claire, La Crescent, Lanesboro, Onalaska, Rushford, Spring Grove and St. Charles locations.

Chief Credit Officer

Mark began his banking career in 1981 as a Commercial Lender. He joined the Commercial Lending team at Merchants in 1986, and was promoted to Commercial Banking Department Manager. In 2005, he became Merchants Chief Credit Officer, overseeing the credit quality for the Bank’s loan portfolio.

Dan began his banking career in 1991 as a Commercial Banker and has over 29 years of banking experience. In 2014, he joined Merchants Bank as a Regional President. As Regional President, Dan has direct responsibility for our Central Region which includes Cannon Falls, Hampton, Red Wing and two locations in Rochester.

Sue is a Certified Public Accountant and joined Merchants in 1992 as an Internal Auditor/ Electronic Data Processing Auditor. She then returned to work for Merchants in 2000 as Chief Financial Officer for Merchants Bank in Winona. In 2009, she became Chief Financial Officer for Merchants Financial Group.

Lawrence Stovern, Regional PresidentLawrence (Skip) Stovern

Regional President, Twin Cities Region

Lawrence has been in the financial industry since 1978, beginning his banking career in Duluth. He spent nearly 30 years in the Duluth market before joining Merchants Bank in 2007 as Senior Lending Officer for the Twin Cities region. In August of 2007, Lawrence took on the Regional President role in addition to his Commercial Lending responsibilities. As Regional President, Lawrence has direct responsibility for Apple Valley and Rosemount and also works with local market leadership in our Cottage Grove, Hastings and Lakeville locations.

Stephen Swenson, Chief Information OfficerStephen Swenson

Chief Information Officer

Stephen has more than 25 years of experience in information technology and operations as both as an executive and consultant to the financial services industry. He has helped provide leadership and consulted for U.S. Bank, Wells Fargo, Alerus, Cornerstone Bank and other financial institutions to implement large-scale technology solutions, facilitate change management and improve operational processes. Stephen joined Merchants Bank in 2020.
